    The Freeing Love of God

    Pastor James Hilton

    Today's reading:

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

We love because he first loved us.

    —1 John 4:8-19

    Who Do You Follow?

    Pastor James Hilton

    Today's reading:

So, Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever.  So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

    The Power of Sin

    Pastor James Hilton

    Today's reading:

All of us struggle! We have all done things and continue to do things that make us scream, “WHAT was I thinking?” When the regret, shame, or consequences of our decisions hit us, we know that something must change. But we soon discover that change is hard! Paul summarizes this battle: "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do…For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing".
    —Romans 6:1-14

    The Final Word

    Pastor James Hilton

    Today's reading:

After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

  • Introduction to 40 Days 2022

“It is finished” is a loud declaration of the victory that has been won; a roar for the whole world to know that sin has been conquered; a war cry to every evil force that they have lost the power of sin and death. Christ’s work on the cross has fully accomplished what we as sinful, broken people could never accomplish on our own. Jesus’ last words have now become the final word of freedom for all who come to Him by faith. Join us over the next 40 Days as we discover that we do not need to add anything, complete anything, or finalize anything when it comes to our salvation—Jesus did it all when he declared, “It is Finished!” For more information, head over to journeyconnect.org/40days2022
