This morning we are pleased to have Alan Rieb of Restoration Road Church preach for us.

In these chapters we observe Samson's many flaws. But at the lowest moment of his life he rightfully, turns to the Lord and the Lord hears his cry.

As we study the life of Samson, we see he is both exceptionally gifted by God and deeply flawed. Nevertheless, God is not hindered from accomplishing his purposes through Samson on behalf of Israel. God is able to work through even man's sinful choices to fulfill his glorious will.

This morning we are delighted to welcome Pastor Jim Fikkert to preach for us. Jim is the pastor of Communion Church in Mount Vernon and president of the 3 Strand Church Network.

This morning we come to the last of the 12 judges, a man named Samson. Samson is the climatic judge in the book. The author wants us to see something unique about Samson. Although he was a deeply flawed hero, we see in him wonderful hints of the perfect Savior and Judge to come. More than any other judge, Samson is prefiguring Christ and preparing us for God's Messiah.

The Christian is not promised an easy life yet Paul commands the Philippians not to be anxious but at all times to rejoice in the Lord. Despite the trials and suffering we experience, we are exhorted to trust in the Lord's sovereignty and goodness rather than doubt His plans and control. Such doubts lead to worry which underestimates God's power, care, and knowledge of our situation. The antidote to anxious living is faithful prayer. The Lord uses prayer to direct our needs, correct our priorities, and increase our joy. The end result of His Spirit working within the faithful Christian is a peace that endures, guards, and comforts.

Israel foolishly picks a deeply flawed man to lead them and as a result, pays a dear price. We see in these chapters that failing to guard one's heart leads to idolatry, adopting the values of the culture and causes division among God's people.

Israel once again spirals downward into apostasy, but this time they are let down by their judge. Gideon fails to finish his life and ministry well. And as a result, suffering and judgment befall Israel. And we are left longing for the ONE, the leader of God's people who will lead not disappoint.

God delights to show himself strong and sufficient in our weakness. Not only that, but the Lord lives with us in understanding ways. He knows our frame. And He is generous in his assurance and patient in our frailty.

In Judges chapters 4-5 we are presented with another example of the incredible providence and wisdom of our great God who orders all things according to his divine purpose and plan.
