Our guest today has endured many challenges as a Single Parent but still she rises to the occasion to ensure her girls are loved and cared for even when it’s hard.
Lindsey is from Cameron, Illinois, a small, very rural town in west central Illinois. She graduated in May 2011 with 51 other students and, in July, set out on her journey to a greater world through the military. She has been in the dental career field throughout her 10 and still counting dedicated years. She has been stationed in Japan, Texas, and Nevada and has deployed to the Middle East. She has completed her Associates Degree and is only 8 classes away from finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Lindsey aspires to be a Juvenile probation officer post-military commitment so she can help at risk youth navigate life and shy away from gang violence, drugs, and negative peer-pressure
In 2012, Lindsey became pregnant at the age of 19 by her ex-fiancé and kept it a secret from him for two years. She gave birth to a little girl in a Japanese hospital. In 2015, she married and had a child but yet found herself in another toxic relationship where infidelity and lying encompassed her relationship. In 2016, shortly after moving to Nevada, she found herself in a dark place post-divorce. She navigated her mental health decline and, in 2017, found herself pregnant with another child. She gave birth to her youngest child alone, who was also born premature.
Lindsey shares her story as a single mother of 3 preemies while staying dedicated to her military oath, her friends, and herself. She explains the roadblocks in being a single mother in the military as well as the resources and advice for supervisors of single mothers.
