In our passage today, the crowd that ate the bread pursues Jesus, curious about how Jesus got across the lake to Capernaum. Jesus could easily tell them what the reader knows that he walked on the waters. Instead, he tells them that they pursue him for the wrong reason. (John 6:22-29).

Our Lord was crucified under the reign of Tiberius (14 -37 AD), Saint Peter under Nero's rule (54 - 68 AD), and Saint John died during the reign of Emperor Trajan (98 - 117 AD). It was a period of darkness that aimed to extinguish the light of faith. Such nights are constantly repeated in the history of Christianity. And yet, no night lasts forever. Who can walk on the waters of the sea? In the book of Job in its ancient Greek translation, the author asks a similar question. “Who alone has stretched out the heavens, and walks on the sea as on firm ground” (Job 9:8 LXX)?  (On John 6:16-21)

Every Gospel has the story of the multiplication of bread for 5000 men, but John provides us with certain additional details that we cannot find in other Gospels. (On John 6:1-15)

The phrase, “the wrath of God” makes many of us uneasy. Theologians teach us that the phrase applies human emotions to God. So, what should we do with it? Should we ignore it? (On John 3:31-36)

the Gospel of Mark is the shortest among all four gospels. Mark writes in a simple language and the action moves from one story to another. Although written nearly two thousand years ago, this small book retains its power. (Mark 16:15-20)

Sunday is the first day of the week, the day God created the light (Gen. 1:3). "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5). But Sunday is also the eighth day - the beginning of another world in which death is no more and human hearts are circumcised by the power of the Holy Spirit. Reflection for the Divine Mercy Sunday.
