Shane Tomes is a level 2 Heroic coach and a behavioral technician specialised in neurodivergent youth. His goal is to become a radiant exemplar and to prolifically give to his two young sons, his students, and his community. He uses play as a tool to engage with those around him and to reconnect to his own inner child. Play also enables him to approach challenges with a willingness to see their transience and sometimes comical absurdity. Like many on the journey, Shane has wrestled with dragons big and small. Wielding  heroic tools and practicing playfulness have all enabled him to walk on the path of the hero he envisions.  By choosing from the infinite responses to stimuli in each situation life outlines, Shane has become the designer of his own life. One heroic sketch at a time.

Isaiah Jacob is a Heroic Dharma coach who discovered a higher path towards his authentic self after years of failing to find his unique place in the world. Naturally, his pursuit of meaning and the desire for connection was unrequited in a society that  predominantly values soul-free achievements. Taking society’s cue, he sought validation and meaning by attaining great success according to the world’s standards. While appreciating the education he received at prestigious institutions such as UPenn, London School of Economics and Berkeley School of Law, he nevertheless felt a profound sense of unfulfillment. Climbing atop society’s apex led to an even more profound depression and a supposition that he did not belong. Only after heeding the inner whisperings of his heart did he take radical action to quit his job in a law firm and attend a 10 day meditation retreat. Here he experienced a deep spiritual awakening that dissolved his previous conditioning and lifted the blocks to being unapologetically true to himself. From a place of radiant authenticity, Isaiah Jacob reminds us of our divine attributes and how to shift from playing small to living with joyful aliveness. And by rekindling his love of music, singing, and dance he has imbued his coaching with a playfulness that keeps him in harmony with his other pursuits.

Frank Chang is a video game addiction coach and certified Heroic coach. He views game addiction as a mask for the breakdown of relationships-from our loved ones, our environment and most importantly, ourselves. When we are broken, we seek fulfillment in all the wrong places and desperately try to be someone other than ourselves. As a result, we sacrifice our authenticity for complacency. Chang’s rallying cry is to embrace our shadows and fiercely defend our intergrated being by “loving what is” without shame or blame and accepting the whole self with all its paradoxes. Only then will the star quality we so admire in our heroes shine bright within us and give us the fuel to act upon our purpose.

Inner Authority

Dan Kimball is a licensed counselor trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Heroic coach who is on a quest to put the “psych” (soul) back into psychology. His experiences with shamanism, positive psychology and the Heroic platform, inspired him to build a cyberpunk styled game called “The Journey of Self Discovery”. The game utilizes AI generated characters to embody VIA character strengths so that the player can practice embodying and cultivating the virtues that they themselves possess.  His target audience is gamers and the IT community who are typically men and who typically do not seek out therapy. Instead of “suffering in silence” these men can focus on developing their strengths while playing a game in a space they are familiar with so that they can heal and flourish.

Dan Hegerich is igniting the inner warrior within those who are experiencing cancer or chronic illness. My guest today is Jo Newman. Like most heroes, her journey begins by crossing the threshold from the known to the unknown. From what is familiar and safe to what is new and adventurous. Usually, some form of adversity shakes us up out of our complacency and we are called upon to act. Do we hear the call? Do we answer only to refuse? In Jo's story, her initial refusal to listen to the signs was met  with an even louder call. Her mentor came in the shape of a natural terrain, a pilgrimage called the Camino de Santiago. And walking upon it changed her life.  Perhaps we should all take note of Nassim Nicholas Taleb's advice when he says, "To become a philosopher, start by walking very slowly."
