Despite the war, despite that everyone else says he's dead, Journeyman Toby continues to search for his father with the help of his human partner. When what promised to be another dead-end lead turns into something more, Toby pounces on the possibility like only a talking magical cat can. However, his questions regarding the secret goings-on of a local temple catches the attention of a mysterious cat whose sole ambition is to enslave the human race.
His supervisor orders the young tom to leave his informal investigation alone or be dismissed from the Office of Kingdom Guardianship. Even though he yearns to find his father, Toby obeys because it would mean taking away the one thing his partner cherishes: his position in the OKG. He follows orders, that is, until someone connected with the temple kills someone he loves.
Members Reviews:
If you enjoy Harry Potter or Narnia and like cats
This novel is aimed at the Harry Potter and Narnia crowds, although this book veers away from the Harry Potter feel. Toby's father is still missing, a character from the first novel is murdered, and there's much still wrong in the world. Other characters are introduced and have a larger role. Toby and Lorn are well paired.
There are some scary scenes for imaginative young ones. The religious aspect is still there. The editing got a bit sloppy with mixing "they're" and "their."
While I think you could read this as a stand-alone, I wouldn't suggest it. If you enjoy Harry Potter or Narnia and like cats, you would enjoy this series. If you like the Joe Grey mysteries and also like fantasy, I think you'll be interested in the series.
Creative, visionary, and entertaining
Although I love fantasy, I seldom bother to take the time required to get familiar with a new world. To any readers who've enjoyed J.R.R. Tolkien, Anne McCaffery, or George R.R. Martin: You just may find this little story tasty.
The setting is semi-fuedalistic with touches of scientific discovery and magic. The fact that talking cats choose to be loners or paired with humans is interesting. The fact that not all humans care for cats, and vice versa, gives depth to the story. Additionally, themes addressing the dangers of blind fanaticism and over-blown bureaucracy were balanced against gentle faith and logic.
As with many ebooks, this one could use a good proof reading. Unlike the aforementioned authors this is not an epic work...although it seems to carry the earmarks of one.

All Cats and Magic but no third edition download
Great read, loved both books. Full of magic, evil, adventure and cats. My big problem is I CANNOT download the third one. Bought it, but only downloading 1% - INFURIATING!
I really do enjoy the Master Cat Series
I really do enjoy the Master Cat Series. Journeyman Cat was exciting to read with just the right amount of suspense and laughter.
