What does it take to go from leading major global transformation programmes to taking the biggest risk of all, building your own AI driven business?
In this episode of Journeys by Talent Today, Gary Wills is joined by David Fenton, D365 Programme Director and Co-Founder of Blazetech, for an honest conversation about the twists, risks and lessons that have shaped his career.
David has spent more than 20 years working across IT, business change and digital transformation, moving from established organisations into consulting and, ultimately, entrepreneurship. He shares what he learned from 14 years at British Gas, why he chose to walk away from the security of a long-term career, and what pushed him to build something of his own.
The conversation goes well beyond job titles. David talks openly about leadership, imposter syndrome, handling pressure, building the right teams and why sometimes the biggest career opportunities come from being willing to start again.
Gary and David also explore the future of AI and what it really means for transformation teams. Through Blazetech and its Blaze Brain platform, David is working towards an approach he describes as AI-guided delivery, using AI to take on much of the delivery work while people remain responsible for validation, judgement and direction.
Away from technology, David talks about moving his family to Canada, his love of endurance running, raising money for charity and the personal meaning behind the phrase “giving up is not in the blood.”

Behind every senior IT leader is a story that rarely fits neatly into a job title.
Hosted by Gary Wills, owner of Talent Today, Journeys is a podcast built around that idea. Each episode…
The podcast goes beyond business, strategy and current challenges to explore the moments that shape a career, the risks that paid off, the setbacks that changed direction, the people who left a lasting mark, and the experiences that influenced how each guest leads today.
Journeys offers a thoughtful view of leadership in technology by giving as much attention to the person as the position.
