For the 2nd year in a row, Piedmont faces a rematch with a region rival in the semifinals as they continue their quest for a 3-peat. Randolph County looks to slay the dragon that is the Bulldogs in their own home and stop Piedmont's state leading home-winning streak.

Both of these teams have been reclassified for 4A next year. Neither have been to a state championship game, but that will change for one of them. Who will move on to Tuscaloosa?

Saks brings in a perfect record to John Morgan Brown Stadium and Fayette, AL to take on the Tigers. Fayette County still has fresh memories of recent trips to the Super 7 in 2012 and 2015. Saks would like to head to Class 3A next year with a 4A championship under their belt.

Matt Glover has found a career energizer in Odenville after being dismissed from his job at Pinson Valley despite leading the Indians to their most sustained success. But Glover now has the Saints in a spot they haven't seen in 24 years, a shot at the state championship game. Briarwood has found its own resurgence since coming back to Class 5A in 2016. Now the Lions seek to go 14-0 for the first time since 2007 and make it back to the state championship game for the sixth time.

St. Paul's and Demopolis are in familiar territory, though the Tigers haven't been to the semis since their state title in 2009. Having gone 0-for-7 in playoff appearances before, first-year head coach Brian Seymore has erased those memories in leading Demopolis to this point. Meanwhile, St. Paul's wants to get back to state championships like they had in 2014 and '15.

Region 6 rivals Clay and Pinson met at Cougar Stadium in Clay in September with Pinson walking out 34-32 winners. The Indians have rarely had their unbeaten season tested like that since. Now Pinson will welcome the Cougars to Willie Adams Stadium with a shot at the 6A state championship hanging in the balance.

Wetumpka decimated the Spanish Fort defense to rack up 69 points and knock out the Region 1 champion. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa was severely outgained in total yardage by Opelika but played opportunistic football in getting a big win. Neither Wetumpka nor Hillcrest has made it to a state championship game. History will be made in Wetumpka, but who will be on the fortunate side?

Maplesville has dominated the Class 1A landscape for five years, but there was a time shortly before that when Sweet Water was the alpha dog in the smallest classification. The Bulldogs couldn't reclaim that crown last year against the Red Devils, but they get another chance in 2017. The winner is the clear favorite for the state championship with Georgiana out of the picture.

It's a battle of the 2nd-ranked scoring offense vs. 2nd-ranked scoring defense in Class 2A when Jermaine Brown and the high-powered Wildcats of St. Luke's host the stingy Goshen Eagles.
