Bank of Ghana insists inflation rate is likely to slow down despite the possibility of future increase in fuel prices

Governments quest to check rise in inflation under threat as transport operators begin public engagement over planned increase in fares.

International banks have pledged to lend Ghana $1 billion for budget purposes and to boost central bank reserves as the country seeks to cut its fiscal deficit and stabilize the currency.

Government has indicated that some additional measures will be introduced in the midyear budget review to check the rise in inflation rates.

Data from the Ghana Statistical Service(GSS) show that the price of bread recorded the highest rate of inflation of 41.3% year-on-year in the inflation basket, which is made of 307 items.

The Bank of Ghana says it is working assiduously to ensure the country’s economy regains stability sooner than later. This is to ensure that the prices of goods and services remain stable or low, as well as a steady foreign exchange regime that will drive down the cost of doing business and living.

British Airways has cut its Accra-London-Accra flights to five days. This means passengers travelling on this route through British Airways can only do so on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturday and Sundays.
