The Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary focus on the joyful events in the life of Jesus and His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, particularly related to the Incarnation and early years of Christ. These mysteries are traditionally prayed on Mondays and Saturdays, as well as Sundays during the season of Advent.
The five Joyful Mysteries are:
1. The Annunciation
This mystery reflects on the moment when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary and announced that she would conceive and bear the Son of God (Luke 1:26-38). Mary humbly accepted God’s will, saying, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”
2. The Visitation
In this mystery, Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is also expecting a child (John the Baptist). Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognizes Mary as the Mother of the Lord, and Mary responds with her Magnificat, a beautiful prayer of praise (Luke 1:39-56).
3. The Nativity
This mystery recalls the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Mary gave birth to Jesus in a humble stable and laid Him in a manger because there was no room at the inn (Luke 2:1-20). This mystery celebrates the gift of God becoming man in the form of a child for the salvation of humanity.
4. The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple
This mystery focuses on the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple in Jerusalem. Following Jewish law, Mary and Joseph presented Him to the Lord, and the prophets Simeon and Anna recognized Him as the Messiah (Luke 2:22-40). Simeon foretold that Jesus would be a light to the nations, and that Mary would share in His sufferings.
5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple
This mystery recalls the time when Mary and Joseph, after three days of searching, found the young Jesus teaching the elders in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52). Jesus explained that He must be in His Father’s house, revealing His deep understanding of His divine mission even as a child.

Amen.”
10. Make the Sign of the Cross
