    Margit is passionate about supporting children to healthier sleep habits, and families to happier, simpler and more deeply connected home lives. 

     

    Her  training and experience as a pediatric sleep consultant, Waldorf early childhood educator, certified SIDs prevention and Safe Sleep Educator, and a mother has informed her child-centered approach to helping families get the sleep they deserve.

    Today my guest is Writer, early childhood consultant and kindergarten teacher Stephen Spitalny. 

    Steve has taught at the Santa Cruz Waldorf School since 1990. He has given many courses at the Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California and for the past decade has been a faculty member at the Waldorf Institute of Southern California (WISC). Steve offers lectures and workshops around the world when we are not in a pandemic.

     

    He offers insight into early childhood development and into various aspects of the young child. He also deos individual consulting and gives lectures and courses for parents and teachers around the world. 

     

    Steve's has published three books on early childhood. He has written numerous articles for various journals and magazines and book collections. His work has been translated into several languages. Steve has 3 grown-up daughters and 7 grandchildren, which are his most significant credentials.

  • Joyful Beginnings Season 1 Episode 1  Meet the Joyful Beginnings Team

    Today my guests are Susan Weber and Nancy Macalaster. Listen as they share about the inspiration and motivation behind creating an online community for parents, caregivers and teachers of young children, prebirth through age three.

     

    Nancy Macalaster: Nancy is a certified Parent Early Childhood Mental Health Clinician in the State of NH. She holds a degree in child development from Connecticut College and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Antioch University New England. She is a graduate of Sophia’s Hearth Birth to Three Specialization and has completed advanced training at the Pikler Institute in Budapest, Hungary. She has completed training in maternal and infant mental health in Boston at the Jewish Family and Children’s Services.

    Susan Weber: Susan was the Director of Sophia’s Hearth Family Center for many years. She directed and taught in the Waldorf early childhood teacher education program at Sophia’s Hearth as well as at Antioch University. She is recognized internationally as a leading lecturer and writer in the field of Waldorf early childhood education. She has focused upon the illumination shined upon the understanding of the first three years of the child’s life as understood in Waldorf early childhood education, especially in the light of the approach of the Pikler Institute.

     She has lectured internationally, most recently at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland and in Spring Valley, NY. She also led a multi-year course on the child in the first three years in Khon Kaen, Thailand, for teachers throughout Southeast Asia. Click here  for articles Susan has written for publication.

  • Cultivating Rhythm, Rituals and Reverence in the New Year

    Today my guest is the delightful and insightful, Chinyelu Kunz. She lives, teaches and podcasts on the east coast of the United States. 

    Chinyelu was born and raised in Enugu, Nigeria and then moved to the U.S.  She found Waldorf Education when her first child was 2 years old. Her children have attended multiple Waldorf schools and all three graduated from Kimberton Waldorf School.  The depth and breadth of Waldorf education is what drew her and continues to fill her with awe and enthusiasm.  She has been a magical and devoted Waldorf early childhood teacher for over 25 years.

    During this episode she shares the importance of cultivating rhythm, rituals and reverence in the home life.

    Episode #26 Connected Parenting with Michelle Kenny

     

    My guest today is Michelle Kenny. Michelle lives in Los Angeles with her two girls 9 and 12. Before becoming a Hand in Hand certified instructor in 2015, she worked for 12 years in public schools as a teacher and counselor. She also served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Education instructing in the teacher credentialing program. None of which prepared her to be a mom. After years of consequences, bribes and star charts she found Hand in Hand parenting, created by Patty Wipfler. It reshaped the relationship she shares with her daughters, and she credits it with changing her life.

    She is passionate about helping others find their way through the murky business of being a connected parent. She loves leading groups and finds the dynamic transformative.  

    Michelle also strongly believes that listening partnerships are the cornerstone to moving through difficulties. 

    Michelle has helped herself and others make meaningful connections, work on sibling rivalry, and alleviate school problems.  Aggression, fears, withdrawal and sleep issues are just some of the struggles she has shared and helped others rectify.

    She holds a Master’s Degree in Education speaks fluent Spanish, has been trained as a Council in Schools Facilitator and an ADL Trainer fighting against bias of all types on school campuses.

    Pia is a  mom, author, parenting counselor and the  CEO and founder of Beginning Well Everyday. She lives in the US now, but is originally from Germany. Pia has dedicated her work to fostering the precious potential of children and the well-being of the whole family. She also founded Beginning Well , an organization that supports compassionate care of children in their formative development years up to age three, based on the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and the practice of Dr. Emmi Pikler. She also co-founded and managed the  Emmi-Pikler-House , a temporary home for neglected babies and toddlers, in Berlin. Pia now works internationally with individuals and groups on self-awareness and unfolding each person’s unique potential.

    Today my guest is the brilliant Julie Lythcott-Haims. 

    Julie  believes in humans and is deeply interested in what gets in our way. She is the New York Times bestselling author of the anti-helicopter parenting manifesto How to Raise an Adult. Her TED Talk on the subject has more than 5 million views, and in 2020 she became a regular contributor with CBS This Morning on parenting. Her second book is the critically-acclaimed and award-winning prose poetry memoir Real American, which illustrates her experience as a Black and biracial person in white spaces. A third book, Your Turn: How to Be an Adult, will be out in April 2021.  

    Julie is a former corporate lawyer and Stanford dean, and she holds a BA from Stanford, a JD from Harvard, and an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts. She serves on the board of Common Sense Media , and on the advisory board of LeanIn.Org , and she is a former board member at Foundation for a College Education , Global Citizen Year , The Writers Grotto , and Challenge Success . She volunteers with the hospital program No One Dies Alone .

    She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her partner of over thirty years, their young adults, and her mother.
