Jua Cilliers is the Head of the School of Built Environment, and Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia). She has 17+ years’ experience as Professional Planner, with professional registrations from both the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA). She is currently appointed as an Adjunct Professor of Planning at the North-West University (South Africa), following her position as Head of Urban Planning and Leader of the Research Program for Sustainable Development, Implementation and Planning. Jua is the Chair of the Women in Planning Network of the Commonwealth Association of Planners (https://www.commonwealth-planners.org/cwip-network) and Board Member of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (https://isocarp.org/board-executive-committee/). She was the inaugural curator of the ISOCARP Cyber Agora (https://isocarp.org/about-cyber-agora/). In 2019 she was the recipient of the National South African Teaching Award for Teaching Excellence in South Africa. She was a finalist of the National Science and Technology Forum Awards and prize winner at the Woman in Science Awards. In 2021 she received the North-West University Award for Excellence in Community Engagement and was invited as Topic Editor to the Land Journal (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/land/topic_editors) and guest editor to the Urban Planning Journal (www.cogitatiopress.com/urbanplanning/pages/view/nextissues#GreenSpaces). Her research expertise pertaining to the planning of sustainable cities, nature-based solutions and community engagement to enhance quality of life.
