Our guest this episode is Amy Brandt, Social Media and Email Marketing expert at Cannabis Creative in Boston. Amy and I discuss shadow-banning and other challenges facing cannabis brands as they try to grow and spread the word. We also talk about tactics to overcome these challenges and a trending social media platform called Clubhouse.
One thing I really love about Amy’s interview is that it covers advice for brands on a shoestring budget, as well as some advice for those with a little more to spend.
I hadn't realized that many of the industry-leading email campaign platforms are not cannabis-friendly and really appreciated Amy's suggestion to use Active Campaign or Hubspot instead of Mailchimp or Constant Contact.
When I asked Amy what advice she would give to a new cannabis brand she explained the importance of an easy-to-navigate website and social media presence to start building brand equity, brand awareness, and trust for your company. “Once you have your website and social media, you want to start building your email list. We use Active Campaign because we know that that’s cannabis friendly. Platforms like Mailchimp and Constant Contact, which are industry favorites, they’re not cannabis friendly. They will shut you down if they realize that you are a cannabis company and if you get too big.”
