Thre great truth of Christmas is that God himself came down into our broken world to be with us. This is still true today as we can really know God with us. Even when everything seems to be going wrong we can through Jesus know God's presence and his blessing.

Paul sees love as the greatest manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the church. He challenges teh believers to be those who love like Jesus. This is no easy or comfortable message but hard hitting and challenging. Love is to be the foundation upon which we build and live.

Peter encourages the believes to recognise the glorious and certain hope that is theirs through faith in Jesus Christ. Though we pass through times of trouble and suffering, God is proving the genuineness of our faith which leads to glory.

In Chapter 12 Paul begins to address the issues around how the Holy Spirit is to empower the believers in the church. THe wants them to understand that it is only by the Holy Spirit that we can demostrate the lordship of Jesus Christ. The Spirit that was at work in Jesus is the same Spirit that is now in the Church.

In Chapter 12 of 1 Corinthians Paul addresses how the Holy Spirit is manifest in the church.H considers the variety of gifts, service and activities that come from the Holy Spirit. As we are informed about the Spirit we are increasingly transformed by the Spirit.

In chapter 11 of Paul's letter to the church in Corinth he addresses teh issues of how they were 'coming together' to partake in the Lord's Supper. He reminds them that they should be demonstrating unity and love instead they were displaying divisions. Paul passes on to them what he had received from the Lord

Paul shows the believers in Corinth that the wisdom of men is really 'fake' wisdom but the true wisdom of God is revealed by the Spirit and is the route to glory.

All of us experience divisions and quarelling, it is part of the human condition but God calls us to be be united in the same mind and same judgement. Paul directs the believers in Corinth to the cross as the one sure foundation for our unity.

We begin our new series looking at Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth. Paul describes the believers as being 'in Corinth' and 'in Christ'. We will explore how God is calling us to be his witnesses and to grow more and more in likeness to Christ.
