In this brief episode, we review The Feather Report (Volume 2, Issue 39) as Westlawn wraps up an incredible school year! We celebrate the amazing milestone of 60 multilingual learners successfully exiting the WIDA program and recap recent events like the spring concert and kindergarten promotion. We also share an important scheduling update: the Grades 4–6 Field Day has been rescheduled to Monday, June 15, due to a heat advisory.
With the last day of school coming up on June 17, we highlight essential end-of-year reminders, such as the 1:30 PM early dismissal and the strict deadline to pick up all student medication from the clinic before it is destroyed. Looking ahead to the summer, we discuss where families can find free student meals at nearby elementary schools, encourage parents to start their background checks now if they wish to volunteer next year, and share an Amazon wish list to help supply the Westlawn Mentor Program after a loss of funding.
Finally, our "Tech Talk" segment reframes summer as a "lab" where kids can experiment with purposeful technology—like mindfulness apps, digital calendars, and voice messages—to practice skills outside the classroom. We conclude with a special double Staff Spotlight getting to know health and SEL teacher Michelle White and instructional assistant Andre Jackson, who both share a favorite children's book: Charlotte's Web!
