In 1938, Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) is a stunt pilot longing to race through the skies in the best planes he can get his hands on - with the help of his trusty mechanic Peavy (Alan Arkin), he might just manage it some day. When tragic interference with some gangsters grounds Cliff before he gets a chance to fly in the big race, the pair discover a secret test rocket. Thinking it will turn their fortunes, Cliff straps the prototype to his back and dons a helmet, becoming an unlikely hero in the process. Fighting off Nazis, gangsters - and Hollywood lotharios attempting to woo his girl Jenny (Jennifer Connelly) - Cliff Secord will become....The Rocketeer!
