Goliath had issued his twice-daily challenge for 40 days in a row - mocking, ridiculing, and taunting the Israelites.

The Israelite army turned into a hand-wringing bunch of frightened men - more like a bunch of frightened children.

This lack of faith and trust in God on the part of King Saul and the people did not just suddenly occur that day on the battlefield.

God’s solution is to use David as His champion to show Saul and his people the trustworthiness and faithfulness of Himself.
