The Bible in a Year: Daily Reading & Devotion

June 5 | Staying Anchored in Truth When Rejected

Listen Later

Today’s readings from 2 Chronicles 23–24 and John 15 invite us to reflect on what it means to remain anchored in God when faithfulness is neither celebrated nor understood. Both passages remind us that formation happens over time as our hearts learn where to find stability, identity, and courage.

In 2 Chronicles, Joash begins with faithful direction because he is surrounded by godly leadership and steady spiritual influence. But when that influence is removed, his heart becomes vulnerable to other voices, reminding us that obedience is not only about moments of commitment, but about the rhythms that shape us over time.

In John 15, Jesus prepares His disciples for the reality that abiding in Him will sometimes bring rejection from the world. He does not call them to become defensive or bitter, but to remain aware, faithful, and rooted in His love when the world cannot understand the truth they carry.

Together, these passages invite us to notice where our need for approval may be shaping us more than the Word of God. They call us to sit honestly with the discomfort of rejection and reflect on what it means to stay anchored in Christ when being faithful makes us unpopular.
