YOHURU WILLIAMS - Five years ago, the racial justice uprising in the wake of George Floyd’s murder was in full swing, and Donald Trump during his first term pledged to “make Juneteenth famous.” June 19th is an important historical marker of the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved African Americans were finally told of the news of the emancipation proclamation that ensured their freedom – almost two and a half years after it was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
