  • Favorite TV Shows
Hey, Pearls! Happy Labor Day weekend. It is the last week of summer which sadly means that on this episode of Just 2 Pearls, Jaimie and Porsha conclude their Friday Faves series. This episode is about some of their favorite TV shows. Some Pearl favorites include America's Next Top Model (with Tyra Banks as the host), Empire, Nashville, This Is Us, How To Get Away With Murder, Full House, The Tudors, Being Mary Jane, Queen Sugar, Underground, Greenleaf, and the Carmichael Show. Porsha graciously humored Jaimie while she spoke at length about her abiding affection for the deeply problematic Bachelor franchise on ABC. Finally, Porsha pointed out how petty it is that amazing shows like Underground that are brilliantly executed get canceled while we privilege reality shows that do not provide positive representations of black life. That's it for our Friday faves summer series! Stay tuned because a new episode of Just 2 Pearls is on the way, and it will be here even sooner than you might expect. Thanks for listening, and remember to cultivate the pearl within you!

  • Favorite Movies
Pearls, grab your popcorn! Today, The Pearls are chatting about their favorite movies! During their childhoods, they loved watching Disney movies like The Lion King, Mulan, and Aladdin. Aladdin was Porsha's original bae y'all. But, their Disney love did not end just because they reached adulthood; Jaimie and Porsha are all up in their feelings when they watch the newer Disney films like Moana and Zootopia. Their inner Broadway stars emerge when they watch the movie adaptations of musicals like The Wiz, RENT, and Grease. And then there are the black films that give them life like Love Jones, Brown Sugar, Waiting to Exhale, Malcolm X, and The Best Man. After recording this episode, The Pearls went on an adventure to see Malcolm D. Lee's latest movie Girls Trip, and they loved every moment of it. The Pearly Posse is ready for Essence Fest. Who's coming with? Finally, Jaimie implores black society, especially "the black church" to get it together when it comes to our theology around sexuality and gender expression. Like, seriously, get your life! Thanks for listening, and remember to cultivate the pearl within you.
