Just Keep Spinning

This episode we got to interview someone we respect and admire so much. Don is actually a transplant from Chicago, a city rich in music history and community. Community. That word gets thrown around a lot but this episode truly exemplifies that. You wanna hear some good music stories but also want to hear someone explain what community means and why exercising your civic duty is also vital to growth of community? Look no further than episode 53. You'll be that much wiser after having listened to Don's experiences about growing up in Chicago , being involved in the house scene and why he left his city and made his life in Arizona. Plus, we get a little lesson on how to test whether or not someone has that authentic Chicago cuisine down.

Jamie is a DJ based out of Phoenix who not only likes to spin but has also done some time on the radio. You may have heard her voice over the airwaves at times in case you get a little deja vu on listening. What made this episode a lot of fun was how open Jamie was with looking back on her relationship with music and the city here as well. People often seem embarrassed to really talk about growth on their journey with music. Many will speak on what they've always loved but not on what they USED to love and how that shapes them today.

We decided to travel all the way to the east and bring you our second out of state guest, Alise. It's always nice getting a fresh perspective from someone that loves music more than records and doesn't mind being honest and giving their opinion on topics without arrogance. You can catch her on her personal IG @naturallyalise or on her new show located at @rnbrepresenters with her show partner @jrworldofsoul .

Okay guys so this is the actual 5-0 episode (popo free though so dont trip). Our guest is Davina. Davina calls Phoenix home and has an affinity for world music. We touch base on why world music appeals not just to her ears but her heart, the moves she's been making in the valley and she fills us in on RecordBar Radio and what it's all about!

You can follow Davina and RecordBar Radio on IG at:

We're happy to be back with Arizona's best funk DJ, Terry, aka DJ PhatSoul! In this episode we cover his beginnings in CA, how the DJ game has evolved and so many other tidbits I can't fit. So listen to his wisdom and give him a follow on IG ( @DJPhatSoul ) and follow his Twitch while he provides phenomenal yet somehow effortless entertainment: Twitch.tv/djphatsoul

Also please sign the petition at saveourstages.com to show support for independent venues.

Here we are officially back in the building with episode 48 and our special guest, Blanca (@Blancitaapplebaum)! Many of you may know her as 1/2 of the event hosted at the Nile, the Rec Room, an open turntable event that is also hosted by none other than Ken (@DJMYGODCOMPLEX). Blanca talks about her up bringing here in Phoenix, her stint in a party crew, and we even have a special appearance by Señor Blancoapplebaum.

We also introduce a new segment with Ken and explain a bit on what else is to come.

Our intro is courtesy of @galaxy_sound_company . They have some of the best edits. Make sure to give them a follow and check out their inventory.

You might remember Chawa from episode 10. We felt it was a good time to check up on her since the 3 year anniversary of Palabras Bilingual Bookstore is right around the corner. Chawa lets us into how her life has changed in the last year. What I love about this interview is you get a better sense of who she is as a person and why we champion Palabras as such an important space!
Featured music of the week is from the Tucson band, Mesquite. Their new album, Caliche , is out now!

So we know you all have been waiting for this one! Hands down this has been our number one most requested interview. Chances are if you've invested your nightlife time in Phoenix you've heard someone mention, Djentrification. I can't even recall how many people I've spoken with who light up at the opportunity to speak about his DJ skills or beam with a sense of pride that he hails from Phoenix. However, most of these statements would always follow up with some sort of personal anecdote how he really is just a genuinely nice person. Despite being a fan of his DJ skills I'd say that the most remarkable thing about him is his sense of compassion.

6.9.19 was one year of JKS and we are here to talk about that, highlight some events, record jail, why a certain sour DJ is suing Billboard and more! If you like music, puns and mispronunciations then this is the podcast for you!
