  • The Anguish of Our Paschal Lamb
Unlike the dumb animals slain at the Passover, our Paschal Lamb, the Lord Jesus, possessed full knowledge of His sacrificial role and the wrath He would endure. Christ's conscious acceptance of God's judgment for sin is seen in His anguish in Gethsemane and on the cross. It was a deliberate act of obedience and love in the face of His horrible knowledge of the cost. Christ's eternal deity and human experience allowed Him to fully comprehend the horror of sin, thereby satisfying divine justice in a way previous sacrifices could not. This profound understanding and suffering by Christ serve as the foundation for the believer's justification and freedom from condemnation. We ought to reflect on this perfect sacrifice during the Lord's Supper, recognizing the immense cost paid for our redemption.

  • Lying to the Holy Spirit
The sermon examines the account of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 to illustrate the seriousness of sin before a holy God. It contrasts the early church's radical generosity with the couple's deceptive attempt to manipulate spiritual perception for human approval. The preacher argues that God's love necessitates His hatred of sin, emphasizing that believers cannot deceive the Holy Spirit. By purifying the church through judgment, God establishes true unity and exalts the name of Jesus rather than fostering shallow peace. Ultimately, the message points to the cross as the only hope for sinners, inviting humility and reliance on Christ's righteousness instead of self-justification.

  • Pardoned, Accepted By God: How May a Person Know and Find Comfort?
There are but few of the Lord's family who are satisfactorily acquainted with it. This appears from their many great and bitter complaints, the frequent distresses they are in, the sinkings of soul that they labour under. With David, in another case, they are sometimes heard to say with uncommon regret, "O my God, my soul is cast down within me," Psa 42.6. That had been my case. Through divine goodness, having been delivered from that burden, I can therefore speak of it by experience. I found that it is one thing to be justified, pardoned, and accepted (which are the words of the query), and another thing to know that thismercy belongs to me. Justification makes certain the safety of the people of God — that they can never perish, nor miscarry of everlasting happiness. Knowing that this mercy belongs to them, is the foundation of their present comfort under all their trials in the wilderness.

  • What the Law Could Not Do
The sermon examines Paul's synagogue sermon in Acts 13 to demonstrate that salvation comes exclusively through faith in Jesus Christ rather than adherence to the Mosaic Law. By analyzing the historical context of Paul's missionary journey and his rhetorical strategy, the text highlights how the gospel fulfills Old Testament prophecy and offers justification to all who believe. The preacher contrasts the inability of the law to save with the transformative power of the good news regarding Christ's death and resurrection. This message serves as a warning against returning to legalism while offering assurance of freedom from sin and eternal condemnation to believers. Ultimately, the transcript urges listeners to rest in the finished work of Christ and respond to the gospel with repentance and trust.
