HEALTHY LIFESTYLE with Host Lori Anne Casdia with Guest James Destasio & Chef Ron Santos from Carroll's Kitchen, a 501c3.
James was raised in a household where you should always show respect and lend a helping hand to your neighbor. I originally started off in the trades where I was doing residential remodeling where I was fortunate enough to run my own company at a young age and linked up with a company called Allure Home Improvements. Through that partnership, I was able to lend my services to a show called "extreme makeover: home edition" where I volunteered 7 times in building homes for the show. That did was get me my first taste of doing charity work. Since I have been fortunate enough to work with the ALS hope foundation as well as The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I always found such a great feeling in helping another person. fast forward a few years and I discovered my passion in cooking. growing up my father always had us involved in his cooking and I knew at a young age I loved watching people enjoy something you created. I have been cooking for over 12 years now and have broadened my horizons by cooking in Italian restaurants, Greek restaurants, bars, and grills, as well as farm to table. My last stop right before the pandemic hit was at JTS Farmhouse in Bayport. as soon as the governor closed all restaurants was when Chef Ryan Carroll and I linked up. Ryan shared his vision with me and I knew I had to get involved somehow and utilize my connections and resources to get Carrolls Kitchen involved with other charities on long island. on day 3 of Carroll's kitchen Chef Ryan named me our Executive Director of Charity Operations. and what that did was allow me the freedom to coordinate and set up an event every day for the past month and a half. we have been so lucky to have helped over 3000 people get hot meals. we have worked with big-name charities such as "The Helping Hand Rescue Mission", "Family Residence Essential Enterprises", "The Family Service League", as well as "Serving the Underserved". those just name a few.
