In this episode, Laura and Tara will be discussing a serious topic that affects the well-being and behavior of our beloved pets – the use of cruel punishment tools during dog training. While the intention may be to correct behavior, it's essential to understand the long-term negative impact these tools can have on our domestic canine friends.
We have very strong opinions about these tools and need to address the most common cruel punishment tools used in dog training, such as shock collars, prong collars, and invisible fencing. Despite their popularity, they rely on inflicting pain or discomfort, and unfortunately, they can harm both the physical and emotional well-being of our dogs.
We will discuss our experiences, try to explain by using our "What if it happened to you?" segments, and hope to help you differentiate between immediate results and the long-term effects these tools have on dogs. While they may show a temporary behavioral change, the fear and anxiety caused by these tools can have lasting psychological repercussions. Excessive punishment can lead to a breakdown of trust and ultimately inhibit the learning process.
