  • Podnews Daily - podcast industry news - Lemonada Media’s acquisition price

Sponsored by RedCircle. Your podcast deserves more than exposure. It deserves invoices. We help with those.

    • How much did PodX Group pay for their acquisition of Lemonada Media)? Around $30mn, says Ashley Carman, in her newsletter Soundbite. She reports that QCODE has achieved fresh funding, and that Goalhanger looks set to get funding from The Chernin Group. (Podnews readers get 25% off Soundbite for the first year using this link)
    • Podtrac released its US podcast rankers for April. The Daily Wire slipped below Paramount; there are few other changes, and numbers are mostly flat.

      • Spanish-language news podcast Noticentro raised some eyebrows last month by appearing at #6 in the Podtrac chart. Noticentro publishes 18 episodes most days (one every hour); but the podcast chart is based on unique audience, not total downloads. It’s nowhere to be seen this month.
      • Sounds Profitable’s Tom Webster released more data from The Advertising Landscape on podcasting’s “fans” - and “anti-fans” - those who listen a lot, and those who are not regular consumers. There’s a clear gender gap; and middle-aged people (35-54) are most likely to be fans of podcasts. It’s data that might help us grow the medium further.

      • The Breakdown - The Fed Is Stuck Waiting While the Trade War Reshapes the Economy

The latest FOMC meeting resulted in zero policy changes as the Federal Reserve adopts a cautious "wait and see" stance amid rising economic risks. NLW analyzes Chair Powell’s careful positioning, balancing uncertainty around trade-induced inflation and employment pressures. Plus, the evolving trade landscape: negotiations intensify with China, the UK deal looms, and the U.S. administration signals it's reshaping global economic order—not just settling trade disputes.

        • The Peter McCormack Show - #072 - Ann Widdecombe - The Tories Have Betrayed Britain

Former Conservative MP and Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe joins Peter McCormack to expose the failure of Britain's political class, the betrayal of conservative values, and the rise of Reform UK.

In the interview, she discusses mass immigration, the collapse of the Tory Party, net zero extremism, unelected civil servants, the erosion of free speech, and the growing disconnect between Westminster and ordinary Britons. Widdecombe delivers a scathing analysis of how the establishment has abandoned its duty to the nation—and why political realignment is not only inevitable, but essential.

        • On with Kara Swisher - Trump’s First and Next 100 Days

The first few months of President Trump’s second term have been chaotic, to say the least. There have been an unprecedented number of executive actions that have triggered an equally impressive number lawsuits; a new government “department,” headed by the world's richest man and launched via executive order, that ousted nearly a quarter of a million government workers; and a global trade war.

Trump and his cabinet have been crowing about these achievements, but his approval ratings for the first 100 days are abysmal — tied for last place, with himself. Kara speaks to three Washington insiders about what this all means for the next 100 days, whether we'll see rollbacks or more full steam ahead, what role Congress will play, and what the potential long-term fallout could be. Our guests are:

Carol Leonnig, an investigative reporter at The Washington Post. She’s written three best-selling books, including two she co-authored about the first Trump presidency: A Very Stable Genius and I Alone Can Fix It.

Ashley Parker, a staff writer at The Atlantic. Previously, Ashley spent eight years at The Washington Post, where she covered Trump’s first presidency, President Biden’s first two years in office, and the 2024 presidential campaign.

Ben Terris, a Washington correspondent for New York Magazine. He is the author of The Big Break: The Gamblers, Party Animals, and True Believers Trying to Win in Washington While America Loses Its Mind and a former feature reporter covering national politics for The Washington Post.

        • Podnews Daily - podcast industry news - Bigger than you think: podcast revenue is $7.3bn worldwide

Sponsored by RedCircle. 10,000+ paid ad opportunities to podcasters of all sizes. Delivered. Want one, too? Sign up.

          • The podcast industry might be bigger than you think. New research from Hernan Lopez’s Owl & Co suggests that the global podcast economy is $7.3bn - and says that the US makes up two-thirds of that. The enlarged figure comes from including video and “consumer revenue” (like Patreon and others).
          • Exclusive: The London Standard newspaper has partnered with podcast producer Message Heard, to lead the development and production of The Standard’s award-winning audio output. It’s the first such partnership for a UK news brand.
          • What are “plays” on Spotify? Since the announcement yesterday that Spotify is adding a play count to its app, we’ve been trying to learn how a “play” is defined. However, Spotify don’t want to say; just that it’s intended to capture user intent, using a number of proprietary signals. As a by-product, “starts” will disappear from the creator dashboard. YouTube has also never published how it calculates “plays”; so, both companies are now using opaque, proprietary numbers as the primary consumption metric for creators.
