About Shelley:
Shelley Dato lives in Sacramento and has been married to her best friend and husband Derek for over 29 years. They are the proud parents of their daughter, Camarin. In this episode, join me as I have a candid and insightful conversation with Angelina Mondavi, the sole member of the fourth generation, or “G4,” dedicated to winemaking. Tune in as we discuss the role of women in the wine industry, Angelina's insights into wines post-2023 harvest, and delve into personal topics such as achieving life balance, prioritizing self-care, setting goals, and indulging in the pleasures of our favorite foods and, of course, wine.
About Angelina:
Angelina Mondavi brings a wealth of experience to the world of winemaking, having crafted numerous acclaimed wines throughout her career. As the eldest daughter of Marc and Janice Mondavi, Angelina's journey began with over 35 harvests across three continents, contributing to the creation of multiple 100-point wines. Her dedication to the craft led her to take the lead at Charles Krug, Flat Top Hills, and CK Mondavi Family Select, where she collaborates closely with Head Winemaker Randy Herron to define styles and refine blends.
Beyond her roles at these esteemed wineries, Angelina offers her expertise as a consultant to various establishments in Napa and Sonoma Valley, including Brasswood Cellars, Harrow Cellars, Allora Vineyards, Castlevale, Avanterra, and Illum. Alongside her sisters, she also oversees the production of her own wine labels, Aloft and Dark Matter Wines.
Angelina's academic background includes a degree in chemistry with a minor in business from Villanova University, complemented by a Master’s in Oenology from the University of Adelaide. When she's not immersed in the vineyards, you can find her pursuing other passions such as fly fishing, beekeeping, and tending to her garden. Angelina shares her home with her loyal companions: dogs Bailey and Chenin, cats Mielle and Onyx, and her ever-present mini potbelly pig, Carlton.
