You gaze out the window watching the snow-covered fields fly by as Christmas classics play on the radio. You had been reluctant to accept Clint Barton’s invitation to join his family’s Christmas, not wanting to intrude. However, when Kate Bishop accepted, taking Lucky the Pizza Dog along, you decided to join them. Beats spending Christmas alone in your New York apartment.   Gravel crunched beneath the tires as Clint pulled the car into the driveway of a homely farm. You all climb out as Clint unloads wrapped presents from the trunk.  “Coming?” he asks you and Kate, balancing the gifts in his arms as he makes his way up the porch.   “Yeah,” the younger archer answers for both of you as she grips Lucky’s leash. “Hey, you sure this is okay?” Kate asks, voicing your concerns.  “Oh, I’m telling you, they are very excited to meet you.”  Clint’s words were confirmed by the flurry of excitement greeting them at the door in the form of three Barton kids. Introductions were exchanged as everyone was ushered in and out of the cold. Warmth settles into your bones from the crackling fireplace in the living room, encouraging you to remove your winter coat.   “Brought home a couple strays,” Clint says to a woman who could only be Mrs. Laura Barton as he gestures to you and Kate. She welcomes you both with a warm embrace. Her hair smelled of fresh gingerbread, her bright smile was infectious, and her hug was filled with motherly invitation. You felt yourself relax by the welcome into their home and family Christmas.   Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate were passed around. The heat of your mug seeps to your fingers. You settle on the couch next to Kate and watch the kids open their presents. You smile at Nate’s squeal of delight. You divide your attention between the gift unwrapping and the movies playing above the fireplace. Elf, Kate’s favorite, played first followed by Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, a fitting film, you think.   Warm and cozy, the aches and pains from the past week melted from your body. You sink back into the couch with a sigh of contentment. Yep, this definitely beats being alone on Christmas. Despite your dark and bloody past with Ronin, you’re grateful it led to spending the holiday with friends.

It had been quite an eventful day, that’s to say the least. Having nearly exploded and then drowned mere hours after escaping from whatever Russian hospital you’d been cooped up in, the warm presence of being reunited with the rest of your Teammates a very welcome one. But that’s not to say the eventfulness of this Mission was over - no… it’s really just beginning. As Ethan begins to lay it all out, you simply sit back in the built-in bunk bed you’d almost instantly claimed when you’d clambered into this train car, minutes ago. A warm cup of coffee, courtesy of Benji, is cradled in your grasp and inwardly, you’re hoping the caffeine doesn’t hinder your ability to sleep. You’re utterly exhausted, as is everyone else in the room, notably your Partner and the Analyst the pair of you had somehow managed to pick up: William Brandt. Understandably fatigued, though. After all, who wouldn’t be after having pulled yourselves from a freezing Russian river and walked for who knows how many miles, shivering against the cold and your damp clothing. But, now, you’re warm… and safe - your assailants won’t find any of you here. That thought sticks with you as you let out a chuckle, zoning back in on the conversation. “And how would you suggest we just snatch the codes?” That’s Brandt’s voice, sounding unfamiliar and rather bored. “We take her out.” “Yeah. We take her out. But you know, discreetly.” Shaking your head you merely share a humored glance with Ethan, who appears equally as perplexed as the Analyst in this moment. But as the Agent continues to workshop the next pieces of the Mission, his voice eventually falling silent and instead replaced by the sound of your Teammates keeping themselves occupied and prepping for tomorrow, you find yourself drifting into a light slumber. The steady hum and clack of the rails beneath you as well as the tones from the music you’d queued up on the rather beaten up Walkman you’d found stashed beneath the pillow on the bunk you now lie in following down after you… with a rather uneasy feeling being drowned out by the comfort of knowing that you’re not alone - you have a Team to back you up.
