2010 Patient Safety Awareness Week was March 7-13, and this year Kaiser Permanente joined thousands of other health care organization to observe the event and to support this year's theme of

'Let's Talk: Healthy Conversations for Safer Health Care.' In this podcast, we speak with Doug Bonacum, Kaiser Permanente's vice president of Safety Management, and Suzanne Graham, director of Patient Safety, California Regions, to discuss Patient Safety Awareness Week and what Kaiser Permanente is doing to improve the safety of our members. Kaiser Permanente's Heritage Resources provided this October 1945 rendition of 'Let Us Call You Sweetheart' sung by Kaiser employees at a banquet honoring Bess, or 'Mother Kaiser.' Based, of course, on 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart,' this popular song dates from 1910 - three years after the marriage of Henry and Bess. It became a lifelong favorite of the couple. If you take a listen to the song, you will hear the singers invite the audience to join in. Listen especially to the end when Henry Kaiser - a little off key - joins in an unabashedly sentimental solo.

At an October 1945 banquet held to honor the Bess Kaiser as World War II drew to a close, Kaiser employees sang 'Bicycle Built for Two' with lyrics customized for Henry and Bess Kaiser.
