I’m back from Kansas, and I want to say this plainly: These trips matter.
Not because they look good on a schedule. Not because they make a clean photo. They matter because democracy doesn’t live on cable news. It lives in rooms with real people—students, veterans, teachers, organizers, parents—who are trying to figure out how to hold the line while the country gets pulled apart on purpose.
Kansas showed up.
We went from campus conversations to downtown rallies. From young people who are paying attention—and asking better questions than half the elected officials in Washington—to citizens who keep showing up week after week because they refuse to be spectators.
People wanted honesty. They wanted someone to say out loud what they already feel in their gut—this isn’t normal, and we’re not going to “move on” while extremists keep tightening their grip.
That’s the point of the Defend Democracy Tour.
To show up. To listen. To tell the truth straight. To connect dots in person, not through an algorithm. And to remind people they’re not alone in this fight.
