  • EP #10 | Alissa Parker | Finding Connection with My New Angel
Emilie went to her first grade class that morning at Sandy Hook Elementary like every other day. Alissa had some time while Emilie was at school, and one of her other daughter was at preschool, so she was running some errands.  During her shopping trip, she got a phone call that one of the schools in the district had had a shooting. She decided to go pick up her preschooler, while there she heard that you could go pick up your kids at the fire station that was right by the school. As she headed towards the school to pick up Emilie she saw the first responders, and the traffic that was building from all the other parents picking up their children.

After a five and a half hour wait at the fire station, Alissa and her husband would finally get the news that Emilie would not be going home that day. Emilie's and her class mates had become victims in a horrific shooting. Alissa recently wrote a book called A Unseen Angel. She talks in details about how she and her family have been able to keep going, forgive, and find the good around them. Alissa was also determined to feel Emilie close by her, and to know more about the life she was now living. She talks about those answers she got, and how she knows that Emilie is now an unseen Angel - that is her new life, and her new mission.

  • EP #9 | Life Lessons from Brain Surgery | Love Your Life Series
When my fourth child was born, all seemed perfect. We were adjusting well, and everyone loved him. When he was 9 days old one thing led to another, and we were in the hospital learning that the CT scan showed that he had a blood clot in his brain that was 1/4 the size of his brain, and would require brain surgery.

My little baby Jack's brain surgery changed my life. I learned a couple amazing lessons as we struggled through the 8 days in the hospital, and the months of doctors appointments, physical therapy, and specialists check ups.

Through the miracles that kept occurring during this entire process, I couldn't deny any of them. I learned the importance of service, and letting people serve us when we really do need that in our lives. I learned that having hard experiences allows us to better understand each other. Our experiences help us to connect and to love each other more deeply.

Here is some pictures of our little Jack while he was in the hospital. He is now a thriving, crazy, silly 7.5 year old how is doing wonderfully. You'd never know he'd been through brain surgery.

This is little Jack post surgery. He was so full of fluids and it was a hard way to see him.

Jack & I playing on the tire swing together. Most people that meet him are shocked to learn that he's had a blood clot/stroke and required brain surgery. We are so lucky he's doing so so well in life. He is our miracle.
