KARIMAH HASSAN on moving through the world with soul

Listen Later

Karimah Hassan is a London-based artist whose art focuses on community-driven storytelling. Her work moves between the studio, the canvas and the street and questions the demarcation between street art, fine art and community art. Her art has been exhibited in institutions such as the Barbican, The Standard in New York, Selfridges and The Rosewood in London. Partnerships with Burberry and other luxury houses have also allowed her to expand her artistic vision to other contexts.

Aside from her paintings, Karimah expresses herself through spoken word poems on social media and her Substack called 'The Gremlins' both of which give you a glimpse into her rich inner world.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Karimah’s inspiring journey from architect to full-time artist
  • The inner blocks that we need to overcome to unearth our gifts
  • Discipline in the creative process
  • On training your soul (not just your eye) to create meaningful art
  • Being curious about who you are
  • Navigating the world as a deeply feeling person
  • Having the courage to create...and so much more!

Karimah is soulful, curious and deeply kind, which made this episode a joy to record. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! And if you do, please follow and leave a rating and review. It makes a difference and means so much to me.

Love,

Anushi
