Karl Saxe, PhD - From Fruit Flies to the American Cancer Society

Dr. Karl Saxe is the Director of the Cancer Cell Biology and Metastasis program at the American Cancer Society. He got his PhD in genetics from the University of Arizona, then received postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of California at San Diego, before joining the staff at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Saxe then joined the faculty at Emory University, where he worked from 1990 until 2007, before becoming the director of the Cancer Cell Biology and Metastasis program at the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Saxe shares with us his varied experiences in different corners of the academic world, and elaborates on the aspects of his career that he finds most important and fulfilling. We also talk at length about the funding mechanisms at the ACS, and what it takes to put forward a successful proposal.
