California Gas Prices Could Rise 75% By End Of 2026: USC Analysis

California gas prices could skyrocket by as much as 75 percent by the end of 2026 with the expected shutdown of oil refineries in the state, according to an analysis released May 5 by a researcher at the University of Southern California (USC).

Regular gasoline prices could rise from an average of $4.82 in April 2025 to as high as $8.44 a gallon by the end of next year, said the report, authored by Professor Michael Mische at the Marshall School of Business.

Two Phillips 66 refineries in Los Angeles—about 8 percent of the state’s oil refining capacity—are slated to close by the end of this year. Valero Energy Corp. also announced last month it will shut down or restructure its Benicia refinery in the San Francisco Bay area—which accounts for about 9 percent of refining capacity—by April 2026, increasing concerns over gas prices and supply.

The USC analysis states that based on current demand, consumption, state regulations, and other factors, the refinery closures could result in a potential 21 percent drop in refining capacity from 2023 to April 2026.

The state of California is currently suing major oil companies over alleged deception regarding the risks of climate change and fossil fuel combustion.

New permits have plummeted 97 percent over the last five years, according to data from the California Department of Conservation. New drilling permits in the state dropped from 2,676 in 2019 to 86 in 2024.

BREAKING: Trump Admin Invokes State Secrets Privilege to Block Attempt to Return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to US – Judge Xinis Responds

The Trump Administration invoked the state secrets privilege to block the attempt to return MS-13 gang member and wife beater Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the Unites States.

The Trump DOJ invoked the State Secrets Privilege in response to a federal judge’s order demanding details on Abrego Garcia’s incarceration at El Salvador’s CECOT prison.

US District Judge Paula Xinis, an Obama appointee, responded to the Trump Administration’s invocation of the state secrets privilege and ordered a formal briefing.

Both parties must submit briefs by Monday.

“The Court requires formal briefing of the Defendants’ invocations of privilege, principally the state secrets and deliberative process privileges, as discussed in ECF No. 112. Accordingly, by Monday May 12, 2025, the parties shall submit simultaneous briefs, not to exceed 25 pages exclusive of exhibits, addressing the legal and factual bases for the invocation of those privileges, including Plaintiff’s request for the Court to conduct in camera review of the withheld documents,” Judge Xinis wrote in a 2-page order reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

This is the second time the Trump DOJ has invoked the state secrets privilege to push back on a radical judge’s demands.

Da Silva “wanted to livestream the execution of children and set up bombs close to the stage during Gaga’s performance,” investigators said, according to the Post.

DOGE Provides Update to One of the Biggest Scams Uncovered by Musk’s Team

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) provided an update to one of the biggest scams uncovered by Elon Musk’s team on Wednesday evening.

DOGE says it has saved approximately $105 billion in a “combination of asset sales, contract/lease cancellations and renegotiations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, interest savings,” and other workforce reductions.

The Democrats are angry that DOGE is saving American taxpayers money, so they devised a scheme to stop Elon Musk and his team.

DOGE recently announced that it had already deactivated 200,000 government credit cards in 16 agencies.

However, there are a total of 4.6 million active credit cards/accounts!

On Wednesday night DOGE said the program to audit unused/unneeded credit cards has been expanded to 32 agencies!

“After 10 weeks, more than 500K cards have been de-activated,” DOGE said.

In March, Elon Musk said DOGE “found twice as many credit cards as there are humans. And these are cards with $10,000 per month limits! That’s a lot of money!”

Trump’s executive actions could be felt for years to come

President Trump has since taking office leaned heavily on executive actions, the impacts of which are likely to be felt for years to come and will be harder to reverse for future administrations than those implemented by past presidents.

Within the first 100 days alone, Trump has already nearly surpassed the total number of orders that former President Biden signed throughout his entire term. These in theory should be the easiest for a successor to overturn, as they would only need to sign a new order to reverse them, unlike laws that Congress passes.

But with thousands of government employees being laid off and funding for certain federal agencies and programs being zeroed out, experts say Trump’s early actions could be longer-lasting than those of most of his predecessors.

“Most of his executive actions can be reversed in the letter of them,” said Hans Noel, an associate professor in the department of government at Georgetown University. “But if you created an agency in an organization and you’ve been building it up … and then that goes away, then the expertise and all the building needs to start over again.”

Trump saw and tested the [DS] first time around, we all saw how easy it is to reverse an executive order, Biden reversed almost all of them, Trump knew what he needed to do to stop this. Trump is creating executive orders at a rapid pace, what they realize is Trump strategy, as he removes the swamp, it won’t make a difference if the executive orders are reversed, there will be no one to carry the orders out. This will make it more difficult for the DS , they would have to create the agencies, hire the people, install their systems, to do this they will need a lot of money, which means congress. When Trump removes their funding mechansim, Federal Reserve, it will be impossible to do.
