In this episode, our host Gundy Cahyadi talks with Diah Saminarsih, one of the Senior advisers for Director-General of WHO, about Indonesian efforts to adopt and implement the concept of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the SDG Index 2021, Indonesia remains stable at 97th out of 193 participating countries. Diah said the challenge to pursue the next record is to rely on the role of the younger generation who dominate 60% of the population. Especially in improving the health and education sectors which can be a trigger for the improvement of other goals.
The pandemic has, however, affected the progress of SDGs in Indonesia, considering how crucial the health sector is for almost all aspects of the SDGs. For example, a startling data is that in every man's death, there are two deaths of women globally. Unfortunately, this may also be related to gender-based during the pandemic. So, it was opportune when the Indonesian government passed the sexual violence law.
