Kathryn Blaze Baum has been a journalist for nearly two decades, and has probed systemic failures related to criminal justice, healthcare, immigration, labour law, food safety and child welfare. She has covered major breaking news events in Canada and internationally, including the 2013 Boston marathon bombing and the 2010 earthquake that rocked Haiti. Before joining The Globe and Mail, she was a reporter for The National Post and a Manhattan-based stringer for The New York Times. Kathryn lives in Toronto with her husband Dan and their three children.

“In Fertility: The Story of a Miracle and the Big Business Behind It.” chronicles Kathryn’s own harrowing journey with IVF and surrogacy that culminated in two siblings for her daughter, each born four months apart – one via surrogate, and one naturally conceived – alongside an examination of the industry that explores questions of healthcare, ethics, the law, trauma and access.
