  • Court rejected Matlala's plea deal, proposed 12-year prison sentence
Alleged organised crime figure Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala's bid to secure an eight-year prison sentence hit a major setback after the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court rejected his plea agreement as unjust. The court instead proposed a 12-year sentence, saying the offences were driven by greed and finding no convincing evidence that Matlala had shown genuine remorse. ActionSA criticised the hikes, arguing they placed even greater pressure on households already struggling with the rising cost of living, without any guarantee of improved service delivery. Phemelo spoke to ActionSA's Johannesburg MMC candidate for Finance, Mpumi Edward, about the impact on residents and the City's justification for the increases. www.kaya959.co.za · Kayafm
