Homer’s Center for Alaskan Coastal studies held a community appreciation celebration at the Wynn Nature Center Sunday to share the end of the 2025 summer season and upcoming closure of the East Hill facility; and salmon are returning in droves to Resurrection Creek near Hope because of a decades-long project to restore the creek’s natural habitat.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly approved land purchases, discussed school funding and finalized election measures at its meeting on Tuesday night. The Ninilchik public school released a letter to the public on August 12th advising that due to staff shortages the school cafeteria would be closed and unable to serve meals until mid-September. There are two opportunities this weekend for Homer youth to audition for upcoming fall and spring dance performances.

In April, The Alaska Bar Association held a meeting for Kenai Peninsula lawyers to discuss current topics related to Alaska Bar membership and legal practice on the Kenai Peninsula; and Soldotna’s new multi-purpose field house opened Saturday with an afternoon of activities that included games of pickleball, food trucks and information booths.
