August 26, 2023Friday Evening 08-25-23Fishing in the Southern Kenai Peninsula and Lower Cook Inlet has begun to slow down. Much of Southcentral Alaska is under a flood watch until tomorrow night, as heavy rains continue the region’s cool summer into next week. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reported that fishing for coho salmon should improve in northern Kenai Peninsula rivers, while fishing for sockeye salmon has slowed in the Kenai River. A central peninsula man and many local automotive workers are asking the Alaska Department of Transportation to reconsider its use of salt brine on Kenai Peninsula roads, which they say makes them slick and can cause premature damage to vehicles. Ryan Smith, CEO of South Peninsula Hospital in Homer announced several new physicians and nurse practitioners joined the hospital staff at the Kenai Peninsula borough assembly meeting last week. The Alaska State Troopers reported a major vehicle collision occurred on Sunday night. A twenty-two year old male and sixteen year old male were riding a four-wheeler when the collision threw them from the vehicle.
