For the past 39 years, Wes and Lorene Faulcouner have been the heart and soul of Explorers Percussion. It started as a modest storefront, which then grew into a massive showroom with anything and everything drummers and percussionists could ever want. Not to mention the world-class roster of teachers. One of the things that made Explorers extra special, was the over 100 drum clinics. Take a trip down memory lane as Wes and Lorene reminisce about the dozens and dozens of clinics over the years. As they say, "All good things must come to an end". The impact of Wes and Lorene's dedication will resonate for years to come. Kent Burnham has been a fixture in the KC music scene for many years.  From his early year with Banshee, to his current projects, Kent discusses what goes into being great drummer. He shares what it was like recording with legendary producer Eddie Kramer, and recording at The Record Plant studio.   Kent is a fantastic drummer and a great teacher (he blew me away with his one take "bumper" for this podcast).  Check out his drumming on two of his current projects, Into The Gray and Mr. Macros V7.  Kent is available for private instruction for all ages and ability through Explorers Percussion.  

Ever wonder what it would be like opening for KISS or Cheap Trick?  Shawn Poores knows!  Shawn tells about how he got started in St. Joseph Missouri with The Sons of Rex to his time with Outhouse, Toledo Walz, The Elders, and in more recent years, The Zeros.  This episode is sure to entertain any drummer, musician, or music fan.  Shawn and I first met in Topeka, Kansas in 1987. It was so much fun catching up and getting to hear Shawn's crazy-fun stories!

From his early days of drumming with bands such as Stick, The Creature Comforts, and Blackpool Lights, to his current passion Steps of Faith and Summer Breeze, Billy covers it all in this episode.  We go deep into drumming, what it was like attending both Taylor Hawkins Tribute concerts, visiting Abby Road, and hanging with drumming royalty. Pat Tomek has been a part of the Kansas City Music scene for decades.  When he is not drumming for the internationally loved band, The Rainmakers, Pat spends his time producing, engineering, recording, (and playing on) some of Kansas City's most talented artist's projects.  Pat discusses the early days of the Kansas City pop music scene and drumming for The Secrets and the 4 Skins.  We cover a lot in this interview: dinosaurs, Rush, drum machines, Leonard Cohen, and much more.  On a side note, I have seen Pat perform many times, his rock-solid drumming is the perfect balance of playing for the song and making things "feel" perfect.  I had a great time getting to know Pat. 

Drummer, author, and educator, Rob Leythem has done it all.  With 10 drumset books, 3 albums, multiple Modern Drummer articles, and countless students to his credit, drumming is what drives Rob in everything he does.  Being a close friend to Rob, we go down memory lane, about how we met, and why we both love drumming so much.  Rob also discusses the work he is doing currently.  Teaching "at-risk" kids, using the power of drumming, rhythm, art, and meditation. Billygoat brought Go-Go to Kansas City, the music (and Quick Trip) has kept him here!  Go-Go has been a well-known fixture in the KC music scene for many years.  He is an in-demand drummer for several top regional artists, always bringing the precise amount of groove, power, and finesse.  Go-Go discusses his early years, touring with Danielle Nicole, Brandon Miller, and Billygoat.  Also known as "The Drum Counselor," Go-Go explains the name (and why it is so fitting).  After listening, it will become clear why everyone loves Go-Go!

Who better than Steve Thomas to kick off the KCDAB podcast series?  Starting his professional drumming career with Shooting Star in 1979, Steve has gone on to record and tour with some of the greatest names in rock and roll.   Steve reminisces about the recording of the first five Shooting Star albums, some of his favorite drummers, the gear he uses, and of course, some great stories.  If I sound like a "fanboy" during the interview... I am!
