April is sexual assault awareness month, and Standing Together to End Sexual Assault (STESA) has initiated a campaign to spread awareness and educate community members regarding sexual violence. This year, community members were asked to submit original artwork of any medium that focuses on the topic of sexual assault, consent, supporting survivors, or boundaries. The winners of the contest, "Create to Prevent," will be announced Tuesday, April 27th and can be found at sbstesa.org.

STESA is also hosting a number of self-defense workshops around the Santa Barbara area, including a free upcoming workshop in Isla Vista this Wednesday, April 28 in commemoration of Denim Day. The workshop will be from 2pm-6pm in Estero Park and is open to all genders, ages 13 and up. Attendees are encouraged to wear denim and can pop in at any time during the event. KCSB’s Ashley Rusch speaks with Bianca Orozco, community education coordinator for Standing Together to End Sexual Assault, to learn more.

The AS Spring 2021 election at UCSB is underway, which means Associated Students candidates are up for election and many UCSB organizations are up for reaffirmation. The voting period is currently set to close on Thursday, April 21 at 4:00 PM, but if a 20% voting threshold is not reached, the Election Board has voted to extend the election until Monday of next week to push out the vote. The voting threshold is currently at 15% as of Wednesday, April 21. KCSB’s Ashley Rusch sits down with AS Elections Board Vice Chair Wessal Esber and AS Elections Board Chair Andrew Yan to discuss the importance of voting in this year’s election and what reaffirmation means.
