There's a new Santa Barbara County Supervisor representing Isla Vista. Joan Hartmann represents the County's 3rd District, which covers Isla Vista. Sup. Hartmann has been a strong supporter of the creation of Isla Vista's new Community Services District and their board of directors. In this episode, Hartmann speaks with George Thurlow, UCSB assistant vice chancellor, and the Chancellor's advisor to Isla Vista.

The Isla Vista Tenants Union (IVTU) has been busy this Winter, heavy rains are causing cliffs to erode, threatening the safety for residents who live on Del Playa Drive. The IVTU had to help dozens of residents find new places to live after a balcony collapse. Daniel Renteria of the IVTU speaks with KCSB host Dick Flacks about the ways in which the IVTU assists Isla Vista residents.

A Santa Barbara resident will be riding his bike from New York to Seattle with a group called Green Riders to raise awareness about food deserts. KCSB's Kendra Lee speaks with Taylor Lancaster, the the local resident to find out more about the ride.

The Average Unit Density Incentive Program, or AUD, was implemented in 2013 with the goal of incentivizing the building of rental housing for working class people in Santa Barbara. But rents at some of the first completed units hover near $3,000 a month for a one bedroom apartment- far beyond what the average worker in Santa Barbara can afford. KCSB News is taking a closer look at Santa Barbara's AUD program, speaking to those who are for and against the program. Phillips 66 is attempting to build a rail terminal to its San Luis Obispo County refinery which would enable the company move oil by rail along the Central Coast. On March 13, the oil giant will appeal to the SLO County Board of Supervisors in an effort to move the project forward. A group of concerned citizens have organized, and are trying to block these efforts. KCSB’s Kendra Lee spoke with Laurence with the Mesa Refinery Watch Group to find out more.
