One major presence has been AJP (Academics for Justice in Palestine). KCSB’s Kelly Darroch interviewed two UCSB Professors and members of AJP: Bishnupriya Ghosh and Sherene Seikaly.

UCSB Chancellor Henry T. Yang announced on August 14th that he will step down as Chancellor at the end of the upcoming school year. He said he plans to return to teaching. KCSB’s Joyce Chi and Rosie Bultman spoke to members of the campus community and beyond to hear their thoughts on Chancellor Yang’s decision.

The Environmental Protection Agency recently issued a ban on DCPA. The pesticide has harmful health effects that have impacted pregnant farmworkers especially hard. As Vandenberg Space Force base launches fill the skies of the central coast, residents have been both amazed and concerned. As the base aims to increase these launches, the California Coastal commission has its own concerns about the space effort. The Coastal Commission held a meeting today, August 8th, to discuss their regulations on Vandenberg. Tensions were high.

Since contract negotiations began in January between AFSCME 3299 and the University of California, the union has called for higher wages to compensate for high costs of living and housing. AFSCME 3299 recently held rallies across UC campuses in support of their demands. KCSB’s Joyce Chi attended the recent picket at UC Santa Barbara and spoke to Francisco Garcia, a member of the union’s bargaining team.
