In 1960, the reigning Open Champion, Gary Player set a new course record at Portmarnock Golf Club, in the first round of the Canada Cup.
Exactly 60 years later, Mr.Player joined Shane O’Donoghue for a chat about the round, his recollections and of course, the broader landscape of global golf, COVID-19 and with more than a few poignant pieces of music thrown in for good measure.
Gary Player become only the third professional to achieve the modern career Grand Slam. 9 majors in total in three decades. 160 professional wins, globally, and 9 Senior Majors. He turns 85 in November, 2020. The man is truly bionic. Or is it a strict regimen of diet and exercise? Probably a good combination of all these elements.
