Keep Calm - An "Outpost of Transformation"

Listen Later

In this episode, Ken returns to the topic of polarization. He suggests that differences between people are not the core issue; rather, it is the level of anxiety surrounding those differences that fuels polarization. He emphasizes theimportance of recognizing our own reactivity and growing in self-regulation. This begins with asking, How can I be less threatened by differences and less reactive to them?

Ken also notes that anxiety is contagious. He invites us to consider how we might limit our exposure to highly anxious voices—such as podcasters and other influencers who inflame moral superiority, resentment, or “us versus them” hostility.

He then shares a meditation that deeply resonated with him, and discusses it with the group. It highlights the importance of seeking out others who serve as “cells of resistance” to the cultural narrative of polarization—communities that resist feeding mass anxiety and instead become “outposts of transformation.”

Ken closes by again posing the question: How do I become less anxious and less polarizing in these anxious times? He points to Keep Calm as a community committed to this very pursuit—gathering weekly to explore how we can become people who, day by day, discover the Kingdom of God and the beauty of God within and around us, rather than contributing to anxiety and division.
