  • Bitch Craft: How To Get Your Groove Back
One of the most difficult periods of a writer's life when they have no desire to write. I don't believe in the "muse" but there have been times in my life as a writer where I was uninspired and had zero motivation. We're going to talk about how we've worked through that whole thing. Questions are welcome in the chatroom.http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/

Join us in the chatroom and ask questions about the process and writing. Topics Discussed:Answering this question: I have a tendency to get lost in tiny details, resulting in an awful research binge that ends with me stuck in the mindset of this is what needs to happen or forgetting to research something until I’m halfway through my story and half the plot just crumbles due to one fact being off because I’ve got a problem with leaving something by itself when I know it’s wrong. • Bitch Craft: The Redemption Arc
Character Redemption ArcsHow do you redeem a character who's done unspeakable things in canon? I've been noodling this for a while because I have a redemption arc in my QB project. Honestly, it's a new thing as I'm perfectly content often to let terrible characters continue to be terrible in my work. But there is more than one theme in play when it comes to redemption.Redemption - the action of saving or being saved from sin, error or evilRepent - feel or express sincere regret or remorse for one's wrongdoing or sinForgiveness - the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven.Absolution - formal release from guilt, obligation, or punishment. There is a psychological process at play that I think some writers overlook in the redemption arc. What drives a character to make such sweeping changes to their behavior? What changes their goals? What's the catalyst?A big change without a clearly defined motive would be empty and ultimately unrewarding to read. But ultimately, actions speak louder than words, right? That's why it's important (for me) to see a character prove their intent with their actions. Incidentally, this is why I never bought into Snape's "redemption". He was horrible and abusive. He made no effort whatsoever to be a better person. We're discussing this topic in the Writer's Table on Facebook as well.Chatroom: http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/

  • Plot Drift: Tony DiNozzo Time Travels
Jilly and I will be plotting during the podcast. Participation in the chatroom is welcome BUT don't be an asshole so if the Drifter says no to your idea -- do not keep harping on it.What does "plot drift" mean? It means I give myself or a guest a prompt and they plot on the fly without any prep. This will open up their thought process and allow you to learn how to explore and build a plot yourself in a very organic way.You do not have permission to use this plot for your own writing. Period.http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/
