What does it really mean to want to be seen?
To be seen, understood, acknowledged, and valued by the people around us is something deeply human. We want people to notice who we are, what we carry, what we create, and sometimes, simply to know that we are here.
But what happens when being seen by other people becomes connected to how valuable we feel?
In this episode of The Kelly Ifokwe Podcast, I’m talking about the desire to be seen, the need for validation and attention, and what happens when we start measuring our worth by how much other people notice us.
Sometimes, growth makes you realize that the people you thought were paying attention to you may not see you the way you see them. And that realization can hurt but it can also bring you back to yourself.
We talk about external validation, self-awareness, boundaries, outgrowing friendships, loneliness, privacy, and learning to be okay with not being seen by everyone. Because realizing that someone doesn't see your value the way you hoped they would doesn't mean that you are not valuable.
It may simply mean that you have been looking in the wrong place for proof of your worth.
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Wanting to be seen isn't something to be ashamed of. It is human.
But there is a difference between wanting to be seen and needing other people to see you before you can believe that you matter.
As you become more self-aware, you may begin to notice the relationships, friendships, conversations, and environments that no longer align with who you are becoming. You may become more comfortable with silence, privacy, solitude, and your own company.
And sometimes, being alone gives you the space to finally ask:
Do I actually miss these people or do I miss being seen by them?
This is a conversation about learning to stop chasing attention, understanding your own value, creating healthier boundaries, and becoming more open to relationships where you don't have to perform to be valued.
Because the goal isn't to stop needing people.
The goal is to stop needing everyone to validate your existence.
