At some point, we all come to a point where our life is at a standstill. Where choices and big decisions have to made, and what would otherwise be good options ruled out. ‘Which job should I take?’, ‘Should I marry her?’, ‘Should I break up with him?’, ‘Where should I live?’, ‘What church should I attend?’, ‘What do I do with my life?’.

Ultimately, God has given us the tools to navigate these difficult decisions and to make important choices in our lives: wisdom, the truth of scripture, Godly counsel and the Holy Spirit. We should make use of and rely on these things; God calls us to do our due diligence. Leaping out thoughtlessly and then blaming God when things go wrong isn’t faith, it’s foolishness.

But even if you pray until you can't speak anymore, memorize every bible verse, and have every godly man and woman in the church giving you guidance, eventually you need to take the decision and put it into the hands of the God who loves you. Sometimes we just have to pray, guess and go, even if we don’t know how things will work out.

What does it mean to have freedom? As Christians we are free in Christ. But freedom does not give us license to do whatever we want. Freedom is not freedom when it's lacking restraint. Ultimately, we are FREE FROM the power of sin in our lives and we are FREE TO live the lives Christ has called us to.

Pain poses a difficult problem for Christians. We often have to hold the tension of a good God and a painful world. But the truth of the matter is that God has a plan even for our pain. Ultimately, when wielded in the hands of a loving God, all of our suffering in this life is well worth it.

"Come, follow me" . Jesus called us to follow after Him. To be his disciple in a world that pulls us in every direction. But we find our hope in Him and in the purpose He has for our lives.

Ultimately, faith is trust. And we all trust in something; none of us are truly faithless. We just put our trust in our ability, our money, our relationships, our status, the church. But none of these things have any real power to effect change in our circumstances. The world will let us down. Our spouses will let us down. We will let ourselves down. The things of this world make terrible Gods. And when we live like that, we begin to act as if God can do nothing, and we must do everything.

The answer then, is to live a life of radical trust. To put all our eggs in one basket. To bet everything on Jesus. To trust that He is who he says he is, and he always keeps his promise. Because an infinite amount of faith in a powerless God will never compete with a speck of faith in an infinitely powerful God.

The relationship we had with God yesterday is not sufficient for today. We can get comfortable with our Christian walk in the season we're in. But when we transition between seasons of life we can find ourselves in a new "spacious place" where all of a sudden, our lives feel so much bigger than they used to be. The goal then becomes to fill that space with a new type of relationship with God. A new reliance, a new faith.
