Dr. Leslie Koenig is using Ketamine to treat depression in her new clinic in Omaha, Nebraska: Waybridge Ketamine Clinics. Ketamine creates a dream-like state, which shifts the balance of brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine; ketamine changes the way brain cells communicate with each other creating new connections in the brain. Ketamine is administered in much lower dosages, so it is not being administered at the same dosage level as when used as a sedative.

Perks of Ketamine therapy that Dr. Koenig explains include short-term frequency of needing to take the medication and immediate effects. Compared to anti-depressants on the market, several months and dosage increases are needed before the full effect of anti-depressants are felt. In order to continue to feel the effects of anti-depressants currently on the market, the anti-depressant must always be taken, whereas Dr. Koenig explains her hope is that clients do not need ketamine therapy long-term.
