Mario Basanov's plastic has been firmly in our record bags for months here at Ketoloco. His forward thinking take on the current disco-tinged house vibe is refreshing to say the least. With high profile release's on Needwant and a superb remix of Hercules & Love Affair's hit 'Falling' last summer, Mario is flying and 2012 will be his.
We're really pleased to have secured Mario for a performance at lour Ketoloco Polar Party on Friday 3rd February at The Basing House, London. Funktion One, exposed brick, intimate vibes, 400 people raving in ski gear, leg warmers and stupid hats. Perfect.

Ketoloco's OO7 is Mr. Alex Niggemann and this podcast is definately a secret weapon. Alex leaves behind his trademark deeper grooves and gives us a highly charged dance floor orientated house mix. This should raise a few eyebrows and keep many feet a tapping. It spans various forms of underground house music with shades of acid, tech, deep & jackin' all nicely broken up with soulful vocal cuts. Enjoy!

We are super proud to announce that our 6th podcast comes from Parisian house legend Jef K. Head honcho of deep house imprint Silver Network, Jef K is a man constantly striving to push great deep house music to the masses. This podcast, however, is a step in different direction from his usual deep house sound and delves expertly into the realms underground disco house.
Ketoloco caught up with Jef K for a chin wag...
1) What have you been up to lately?
Been touring a lot and working a lot on music lately, a lot of new releases are coming up including a new one on my label silver network with two originals from Death on the Balcony. Remixes by myself & gwen maze, robert james, and valentin from paris will also be onn that EP. There is also an original track and a remix for a very nice track from yakine on One Records - Birmingham, two original tunes by myself, gwen & alex murak on Italian label Rebirth and finally a remix for 2020 vision ... and so on!
2) You were born and raised in the suburbs of Paris. How did this influence you musically?
i was raised with all kinds of 'black music', reggae, funk dico, hip hop ... everything with huge basslines so i went naturally to house music after that ...
3) A lot of people tend to say the French house scene was stronger back in the 90's, what are your thoughts on this?
I think it's true, bak in the days we were really lucky to have all big dj's fighting to play in paris, then it went a bit down for a few years but it's really changing now and paris is getting bigger and bigger nowadays partywise and musicwise ... a lot of new talents are coming up as well as new partypeople .... Paris is back bébé !! ;)
4) Silver Network has become a classic deep house label. Can Tell us about your ethos with the label? Have you always led it in the same musical direction as you do now?
My brother and i built the label back in 1999 and we have 30 releases so far, we always tried to have a certain quality ... As big fans of US house music here are a lot of american artists but we opened it a lot to all kinds of artists from europe also .... Not really caring about names but defintly caring about quality music ...
5) What are your past experiences of Ketoloco? Did you think about those when you were planning your mix?
I played ketoloco for easter bank holiday in london this year and had a real blast ... it was a beautiful sunny day and i only have great memories of it ... Of course i thought about it when doing this mix but it's not really what I play for you guys, it's takes a more disco journey.
6) The podcast takes a more laid back route through disco house music. Do you prefer playing at slower tempos?
Actually i love basslines and the slowest the better to enjoy them ... Also i like podcasts that are made for homelistening, i also like proper club sets, but i thought i should give you this one as i had a lot of beautiful tracks that are not always possible to play in clubs ...
7) How was the podcast produced?
Did it this week end at home with my girlfriend as only audience ... She's really into music and gives me the good vibes i need to make a proper podcast ...
8) When your not touring or in the studio, what do you do to relax?
me and my girlfriend have two kids, no better way to relax than hanging with them ...
9) What's on the horizon for Jef K in 2011?
More and more music more and more parties ... stay tuned !!

1) Can you tell us a bit about the mix - how did you approach it?
This is just a mix up of some of my favourite tracks at the moment. It also gives a good indication of the vibe that i'm playing out. Looking back at the tracklist it's actually pretty upfront for me. I normally play more of a mixture of old and new stuff.
2) How and where was the mix recorded?
I just recorded the mix in my studio at home, just on some CDJs and a pioneer 600 . Nothing really that special to mention i'm afraid. However, I do often edit the tracks I play a bit before hand, to make them more to how i feel they will work when i play them. Especially for studio mixes when you have more time to think about how you want to piece things together.
3) Is the 'how' important? IE are you strictly vinyl, digital only, a keen fan of gadgets like FX boxes etc etc?
For me, personally, I'm not that fussed. Right now i just play out using CDs and a tiny bit of vinyl, sometimes. I think everyone has their own way of working, and if it works for them, then that's great. People get too caught up about the 'how' sometimes and forget about the music, which is the most important part for me. Saying this, i'm looking to get into ableton or traktor soon though, as they both look like pretty cool programs.
4) And for a normal set in a club - how much preparation goes into each one? How much planning do you do or are most of your sets done on the fly?
I'd love to say i'm one of those people who meticulously plans everything before hand, but i'm very much a 'on the fly' type of person. I also find that if you have this approach you can adapt to the crowd/situation easier. I mean you could have planned the best set in the world, but if the crowd isn't feeling it, then you're not doing your job.
5) You’re playing a set for Ketoloco @ The Light Bar on Sunday 29th August - what can people expect from you?
More of the same with a few surprises and maybe some more exclusives!
"I often listen to podcasts when coming back from a party with friends or driving somewhere, so i thought I'd put together some tunes I like to listen to at these moments of the day. Mostly easy going vibes but also more dancefloor oriented tracks. Some of the tracks in this mix I have played in sets for a year or more and I just can't stop playing them. I also found a lot of great new tracks recently that i wanted to fit in this set as well. Its a sort of snapshot of what i'm enjoying listening to and playing at the moment.
It was recorded at the studio where I produce, after coming back from a beach party last weekend. I used Traktor going straight into 2 channels on an Allen & Heath mixer. I knew more or less which tracks I wanted to include but I decided to do it on the fly as it mimics more what I do when I play. After that I added some vocal samples here and there and made a couple of edits to shorten the set in Ableton Live. Often I make podcasts entirely in Ableton Live because i enjoy making edits of the tracks I play and add loops etc on top but i thought i'd try another way this time."
