Questions for Discussion

1. What are some pieces of advice you have received from people? Has it been helpful or not? What was the message behind the advice?

2. If someone were to ask you “What is the key to a successful/happy/purposeful life?” what do you think you would tell them? What would be your advice?

3. Read Joshua 1:8. What, according to the Lord, is what causes a person to be prosperous and successful? Do we live like that? Do you live like that? Why or why not?

4. Read Deuteronomy 10:12-13. Does fearing the Lord sound like a good thing or a bad thing to you? Why?

5. According to these verses, what are the results of fearing the Lord? What does that tell you about God and his character?

6. How do you fear the Lord? What does it look like when you don’t fear the Lord? How would your life be different if you feared the Lord more?

Questions for Discussion:

1. Did anyone from you group see the eclipse? If so, what made it so special?

2. What was one of the most amazing meals you’ve ever eaten? Why do you think it’s so easy to gush about food or something else, and sometimes hard to talk about Jesus or the gospel? What would be needed to change that?

3. Read 1 Peter 2:4-5 and 9-10. What are all of the different things/identities we are called in this passage of scripture? Which is the hardest for you to identify with?

4. When you read this passage, do you see yourself? If so, or if not, why? What’s standing in they way of being able to see yourself in light of this text?

5. As priests called to serve our community, we need to offer spiritual sacrifices and lift high th the name of Jesus. What are some ways that we practically can do this?

6. As we begin to live out our holy & royal priesthood, how do you think God is calling us to pray, be available, and be Jesus’ representatives?

7. Share the names of neighbors, friends, and co-workers that need to know Jesus. Pray together as a group that God would provide opportunities this week to live as priests of God’s Kingdom to the community He’s placed you in and to the people He’s put in your life.

Questions for discussion:

1. When you hear the word 'missionary' what is your first thought or impression? Why is that?

2. If you are a follower of Jesus, have you ever thought of yourself as a missionary? Why or why not?

3. Read Isaiah 6:1-8. What did you notice in this narrative? How does Isaiah respond when he "sees the LORD." How do you think we should respond? Is this your response when you go before God?

4. In verse 7, Isaiah is purified from his sin, so he can approach God. How is it possible for us to approach God? (read: 1 John 1:7, Hebrews 10:17-22).

5. Isaiah looked around and recognized the brokenness of his world (v.6:5). In what way do you seen the brokenness of the world?

6. Do you think God still asks the question "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" (v. 8). What is your response to that question?
